Room to Sail

One small white sailing dinghy crosses a wide sheet of sage-green water, leaving a thin wake behind her. An ochre buoy floats far off, and the horizon sits high with a pale band of sky above. That's all there is. The dinghy is tiny on purpose, so the picture is mostly calm water and space.

Because it's so pared back, it suits modern rooms and plain walls: a hallway, a landing, a bedroom painted in soft colours. It's tall and narrow, which helps in tight spaces. It makes a thoughtful gift for someone who learned to sail in a dinghy, or who teaches others to.

A framed poster in black or natural wood gives the flat colour a crisp edge. Canvas works too if you want a gentler surface. Try A3 for a small wall or A2 where it hangs alone; the empty water looks better with a little size.
